Chesapeake Home

As the sole developer on this project, I scraped the contents of Chesapeake Home’s old website (which were locked in a less-than-perfect database setup on a third-party server) and cleaned up the data before using a custom script to batch import the old content into WordPress.

Working from a design by Jen Kelly, the front page of the site has widgetized content areas for easy updating without touching the template files. I also developed a plan to organize the site’s content in such a way that editors are able to easily select content to feature on the homepage in several different areas as well as maintain sub-blogs within the standard WordPress installation. Several aspects of the site—such as the issues archive and the Reader Resource directory—were built to work with existing print publication processes.

This project was completed while employed by The Baltimore Sun.
